About Deborah Black Lamble, LMFT

Clinical Approach:

As a Licensed Clinical Therapist who practices a strength-based approach to assessment, strategies and treatment, I love helping people to re-connect with their own happiness! My clinical expertise is in combining specialized clinical knowledge and skills in the service of resolving anxiety. My unique approach incorporates Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness. I find that many people diagnosed with long-standing clinical depression and anxiety are often suffering from the negative impact of self-criticism, relationship discord, past trauma, or achievement fatigue, and that once these are addressed, their symptoms subside. I’m trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Art Therapy, Family Systems, Schema Therapy, and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support.

Why I Became a Therapist?

I’ve always felt more comfortable listening than sharing. Starting in middle school, my mom had to intervene by telling her friends to refrain from over-sharing about their personal problems. Whatever compelled others to share, whether a stranger or friend, I’ve always felt grateful that they would allow me to hear their inner thoughts, and I’ve never taken for granted how impactful presence can be. From my own experiences with grief and life challenges, I personally know what it means to take time to heal and how difficult it can be to change. I value the bravery that it takes to survive when in pain. We may not get to control life circumstances, but we get to choose how we handle it. I walk alongside my clients on their journey and I endeavor to help get them to a place that they were capable of all along … wholeness and growth.

Professional Background:

Anxiety disorders (anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, high achieving, struggles with I began my journey of being of support to others as a volunteer in 2010 working with teens, families, and adults in various settings – helping connect them to resources within the community, educational programs, and providing community support services. Since then, I have earned a Masters in Counseling from Santa Clara University. I have worked with people of all ages in a multitude of settings including: corporations, schools, spiritual centers, and private therapy practice. In addition to being a master’s level psychotherapist, I provided corporate training in employee appreciation programs, stress reduction, team building, and culture awareness from 2010 to 2016. I worked as a school-based therapist at Bagby Elementary School providing services for children and groups. I also worked as a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee treating children, adults, and families at Almaden Valley Counseling Services. I provided comprehensive assessments and evaluations and developed individualized treatment plans. Starting in 2016, I have worked with teens, parents, groups, and families at Teen Therapy Center and Family Therapy Center. I created and led a three-week workshop for parents of anxious teens, providing psycho-education, emotional coping skills, and relaxation skills. I also have experience leading process groups for teens experiencing anxiety, friendship difficulties, and depression. My professional intuitive skills make me especially proficient at working with people at a distance through video therapy. I started my own private practice in June 2021.
